The Junior League of Tallahassee's Little Black Dress Initiative

The Junior League of Tallahassee (JLT) is launching it's third annual Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI)! Between November 26 and November 30, 2018, JLT members and LBDI advocates will wear the same black dress or outfit for five consecutive days to raise awareness about hunger in Florida's capital city. The dress or outfit will represent the lack of choices those who are food insecure have. By wearing a button that reads "Ask me About my Dress" or "Ask me About my Outfit," advocates invite dialogue among colleagues, friends, and strangers to raise awareness about food insecurity and how it affects our community.

How Donations Will be Used

The funds collected will fuel JLT's mission to improve the lives of children and families in our immediate community. Funds are used to support JLT's initiatives to address basic needs, including:

Kids' Boutique, where more than 100 of Leon County's neediest children are taken back-to-school shopping for clothing and shoes, and given backpacks stuffed with school supplies to ensure they start the school year with the resources they need. This initiative helps caregivers eliminate choosing between food and essential school supplies.
Our partnership with America's Second Harvest of the Big Bend, a local food bank that distributes millions of pounds of food every year to hungry families in the 11-county region of the Big Bend. JLT has teamed up with this important organization to augment programs like their weekend food backpack program and Summer Feeding, “Food on the Move’ bus.
